Session: Keynote Address

Profile:  Keriako Tobiko served as the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry from 2018 to 2022 where he spearheaded great transformation in the Ministry and its Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGA’s) in the areas of forest conservation, environmental management and protection, climate change, protection and conservation of strategic water towers and wetlands, modernization of Kenya’s meteorological services and stakeholder engagement. Mr. Tobiko coordinated effective participation of the country, at international and the highest level, in all the meetings of Conference of Parties (COPs) and Meeting of Parties (MOPs) for all the Multilateral Environmental Agreements to which the Kenya is a signatory.

Prior to his appointment to the Cabinet, Mr. Tobiko served as the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), the first holder of the office since the promulgation of the Kenyan Constitution 2010, where he provided positive, technical, professional and managerial leadership to the department of public prosecutions.

Mr. Tobiko is an advocate of the high court, a seasoned lawyer, lecturer and publisher and has served in several commissions in a career spanning over 30 years. His areas of expertise include: – Constitutional Law, Corporate Governance, Corporate Law and Finance; Environmental law Policy; Climate Change Policy; Climate; Carbon Markets; Multilateral Environmental Conventions; Treaties & Agreements (Negotiations &Financing Mechanisms); Environmental Climate Justice: Litigation & other redresses mechanisms.

He holds a Master’s degree from Cambridge University, England, Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nairobi (First Class Honours) and a Post Graduate Diploma from Kenya School of Law.
